THE ART OF DISSENT: YOUR ROLE AGAINST TYRANNY
Every dictator and authoritarian figure throughout history has feared the artist more than the bullet; the Artist lights the fire within a resistance. Power can silence mouths, but the true artist is an insurgent of a different breed. A combatant impossible to buy and even harder to kill. The artist moves through the cracks of control, speaking in symbols, through dreams, and throughout truths too slippery to catch and too potent to ignore. We create mirrors that we sharpen to a shiv’s edge, and reflections are harder to bury than bodies.
In times of unrest, when the machinery of power grinds down on the human spirit, creation is the act of rebellion. It exists outside the sanctioned narrative. A well-crafted line can outlive a tyrant, a single song can dismantle a regime’s illusion of permanence, a film, a poster, a photograph, etc. These all become potent weapons of mass disruption. Artistic propaganda, wielded with skill and fury, can ignite revolutions. It plants seeds of doubt in the hearts of the oppressors and plants courage in the minds of the oppressed, and in this world of modern surveillance, the artist must work loudly in the darkest of shadows; we have a fine line to walk in this moment. The time has come to create with rage. Create with the knowledge that somewhere, a tyrant is losing sleep as your act of creation solidifies their destruction.
You, the creator, are more dangerous than you know. You hold a weapon far more enduring than violence. This is not the time for silence. It is not the time for neutrality. Neutrality is complicity. Art is never neutral; it either upholds the regime or shatters it. Create with the fury of every silenced voice burning behind your ribs. Understand that your work is not mear decoration, it is a detonation. It is subversion disguised as beauty, and it carries the weight of every truth the oppressors would rather bury. They fear you because you remind the world that their power is neither natural nor permanent.
The time has come for the artist to return to their oldest role: not an entertainer, not an influencer, but a fighter. A smuggler of dangerous ideas. Create like your life depends on it, because for someone, somewhere, it does. Refuse the chains of apathy. Refuse the comfort of neutrality. Refuse to be complicit in your own silencing. Become the match that burns down the empire. - Mitch
