MAKING A CG SHORT | EP. 01 | STORYBOARDS AND STYLEFRAMES

I've decided that I am going to document the making of my new cg short film. Both to motivate me to keep working on it during any freetime I might have, and to allow myself to fuck around with my new Sony a7iii. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sorry for the shitty audio btw, I am going to do a different setup for the next video to limit the echo. It was intense in my office for some reason. Thanks for watching!

In this first episode, we go through some quick, rough storyboarding and start gathering some initial ideas. After we have a start with our direction, we move to looking at potential styleframes to end the video.

I AM POSITIVE LIGHTING IS MUCH EASIER THAN YOU PROBABLY THINK IT IS! 🙌🙌🙌 SURE, LIGHT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE LIKELY TO FIGHT AGAINST, WHICH IS ENTIRELY TYPICAL. IT SUCKS, I KNOW. LIGHTING WASN’T ALWAYS WHERE I FELT AT HOME. BUT GIVEN HOW ESSENTIAL IT WAS TO MAKING MY TURDS SHINE, I BEGAN TO FOCUS ALMOST ENTIRELY ON UNDERSTANDING THE LINK BETWEEN LIGHT AND MESSAGING. THIS WILL BE A SERIES OF OPINIONS OBVIOUSLY, SO TAKE WHATEVER INFORMATION YOU FIND VALUABLE AND MODIFY IT FOR YOUR OWN WORKFLOW. OH, IT’S ALSO A MULTI-PART SERIES! 😍

The Truth About Building Story

WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING YOUR WORK STAND THE TEST OF TIME, BUILDING A STORY AROUND IT IS THE BEST WAY TO ENSURE IT’S LONGEVITY.
